after steven spielberg and ken burns directed videos for the DNC, I wondered if anyone with clout would be behind the camera of barack obama's 30 minute TV spot? and sure enough, davis guggenheim of an inconvenient truth directed the thing. and among others, google CEO eric schmidt appeared in it to give his endorsement. I worry about the new wave of cronyism among leaders in government and technology -- barack obama, al gore, green energy, google, apple (al gore is a major stock holder of both google and apple, and is on apple's board) -- it all seems very benign now (what could be bad about sharing information and protecting the environment?) but it must have been the same way with oil and steel and transportation a century ago.

ADDITION: I forgot to add pixar to the list, steve jobs is a majority stock holder, and I'll be damned if wall-e wasn't about falling in love with an ipod.
